There are many ways to communicate with your student while they are studying at the Steger Center.

Free Wi-Fi is available to students at the Steger Center. With an Internet connection, you can communicate with your student via email, social media, text messaging apps (such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp), and video messaging apps (such as FaceTime and Skype).

Check with your phone provider for international calling rates and options.

To call Switzerland from the U.S., follow these steps:

  • Dial 011, the U.S. exit code
  • Dial 41, the country code for Switzerland
  • Dial 91, the two-digit area code for Ticino
  • Dial the 7-digit phone number

If your student would like to call you in the U.S. from Switzerland, follow these steps:

  • Dial 00, the Swiss exit code (on most cell phones you can dial + instead of 00).
  • Dial 1, the country code for the U.S.
  • Dial the 3-digit area code
  • Dial the 7-digit phone number

Students may choose to purchase an international data plan from their cell phone provider to call home or communicate via messaging apps without needing to connect to Wi-Fi networks. These costs vary by provider and may be expensive. Students may also contact their cell phone provider to see if their phone can be “unlocked,” allowing them to purchase a Swiss SIM card to make local and international calls once they arrive. Students may also choose to purchase an inexpensive mobile phone in Switzerland for temporary use.
